"Good Enough" is the Most Expensive Strategy

If you walked past a shop on Victoria Street and saw dusty windows, faded signs, and a "Boxing Day Sale" poster still hanging in February, would you go in? Probably not. You’d assume they’d either closed down or simply stopped caring.

The same rule applies to your social media.

In 2026, 58% of consumers discover new brands through social channels. Before a local customer commits to the drive to Busselton or Dunsborough, they check you out online. If your social media looks neglected, they’ve judged your quality before they’ve even met you.

If you’re going the DIY route, you have to treat it like a core business pillar, not a chore for coffee breaks. To stop wasting your time (and your reputation), follow these five rules:

  1. Post with Intent: If a post doesn't educate, inspire, or solve a problem, it’s just digital clutter. Stop posting just because "it’s been a while."

  2. Master the Three Pillars: You don’t need a studio, but you do need lighting, clear audio, and stability. In 2026, the algorithm actively demotes blurry, shaky, or muffled content.

  3. The 3-Second Rule: Locals are impatient online. Skip the "Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted..." and start with the result or a hook.

  4. Talk to the "Lurker": Stop chasing likes from your mates. Use keywords (e.g., “Best coffee in Bunbury”) so the people actually looking for your service can find you.

  5. Consistency > Frequency: Three high-quality, intentional posts a week will always beat seven days of grainy "filler" that makes your brand look cheap.

this that being said ... You wouldn’t trust a casual junior to lodge your tax returns or a "tinkerer" to wire your shop’s electricity. So why leave your primary discovery tool to a staff member with a smartphone and no plan?

Running a business in the South West is a full-time job. If this list feels like "one more thing" on an overflowing plate, we can help. We’ve developed a high-impact content system for local businesses who are done with "just posting" and ready for a digital shopfront that actually sells.
